Every time I read a new study on nutrition, and all the contradictions it includes to previous studies, I say to myself “Balance in everything grasshopper”. Now a new study has shown a growing body of evidence that shows that drinking too much milk is bad for you.  Increased amounts of milk does not lead to increased bone strength but it high in lactose and galactose, two sugars that have been linked to oxidative stress and chronic inflammation. And, without the added vitamin D your bones won’t absorb the calcium they need! So, once again science has proved that too much of a good thing is a bad thing.

A study conducted by researchers in Sweden and published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology shows men can cut their risk of heart disease by 86%! All they had to do was exercise daily for at least an hour, eat a diet rich in fruits vegetables, legumes, whole grains and reduced fat dairy products and fish. They could only consume 1 ounce or less a day of alcohol, and not smoke. The researchers admitted that out of 20,271 subjects only 1% fit the above criteria! But, those 200 guys had 86% less heart disease. So, it works.

Just when you thought it was safe to drink bottled water again a new study conducted by scientists from Nanjing University and the University of Florida say “maybe not”. While many brands have worked hard to eliminate BPA from their bottles researchers still found amounts of Antimony, a trace heavy metal which has been found to play a role in lung, heart and gastrointestinal diseases. The higher the temperature tested, the higher the amounts showed up in the water, getting as high as four times the level recommended by the EPA. So, time to buy a new water bottle and fill it up from a Britta pitcher!

It seems that, even after years of evolution, some human traits don’t change. A recent study conducted by sociologists at Chapman University reveals that human beings’ number one fear is; walking alone at night in the dark. We still fear what we cannot see even if there isn’t anything there to be seen! The study went on to explain that this is a deeply ingrained survival instinct because most predators see better at night and therefore hunted early man in the dark. And of course the humans who weren’t afraid of the dark and walked around outside at night got eaten!
